How We Research This Site: Sources and Methodology
This site publishes figures, so it should say where they come from and what they are worth.
What this site is
UTFloors is an independent Utah flooring resource. We do not sell flooring, we do not install it, we do not quote jobs and we do not pass your details to anyone. There is no phone number and no lead form, because there is nobody here to call you.
The cost estimator runs entirely in your browser. Nothing is sent anywhere unless you specifically ask for the result by email.
Housing figures
Every median year built, share of housing predating 1940, share built since 2000, and population figure on this site comes from the U.S. Census Bureau’s American Community Survey, 2020–2024 5-year estimates — tables B25035, B25034 and B01003 — pulled in August 2026 for each city individually. They are not state averages repeated ten times, and they are not rounded for effect.
Where a city page says Lehi’s median home was built in 2007 and Salt Lake City’s in 1965, those are the actual figures and the forty-two-year gap between them is the reason this site treats Utah as two markets rather than one.
Cost ranges
The installed ranges are planning figures assembled from published national and regional cost data, expressed as wide bands rather than precise numbers. Regional variation is applied to the labor half only, because material prices are national. The most expensive region in the state is the baseline, so no city page ever prints a range wider than the statewide table.
They are estimates for planning. They are not quotes, and no calculator can see your subfloor.
Technical guidance
The concrete moisture guidance follows ASTM F2170, the standard test method for determining relative humidity in concrete floor slabs using in-situ probes — including the 40% slab depth, the minimum 24-hour equilibration, and the probe count of three per first 1,000 square feet plus one per additional 1,000. The 75–80% RH figure for wood flooring reflects common manufacturer specifications; the number that governs any particular warranty is the one on that product’s data sheet.
The licensing description reflects Utah’s construction trades rule: the S220 Carpentry and Flooring classification and the express exemption of carpet, vinyl sheet, vinyl tile and vinyl plank installation. Rules change; check the current text before relying on it for a contract.
What we do not do
- We do not invent statistics. Where per-state data does not exist — flooring market share by state, for instance — we say the figure is national rather than dressing it up as local.
- We do not publish reviews, testimonials or project photos from work we have not done.
- We do not claim a team, a history, or a service area we do not have.

The photographs are licensed stock images of real interiors, credited to their photographers. They illustrate materials and rooms; they are not photographs of Utah projects and are not presented as such.
